Pimp Stitch Embroidery Finish

A huge thank you to everybody who left me comments on my Xmas ornament! That just made my day. :)

Well, I finally did some crayon tinted embroidery. This pattern is one of the freebies from Pimp Stitch. (Unfortunately, it's no longer available. But they do have some really cute Halloween patterns for sale -- so go look!)

I'm happy with how this turned out. I didn't play around with blending colors but I can try that next time.

My first attempt at crayon tinting did not go well. I only had a small container of crayons and I didn't like the colors I used to fill in the design so I didn't bother to embroider it afterwards. But then I found my beloved box of 64 Crayolas (with the built-in sharpener!) so I had more colors to choose from. I also held a sharpening fest before I began coloring. Am I the only one who enjoys sharpening her crayons?

Does anyone remember when Crayola needed to get rid of four older colors in order to make room in the box for new ones and burnt sienna was on the hit list? According to my old blog, it was back in 2003. And, according to the Crayola website, the retired colors ended up being blizzard blue, magic mint, mulberry and teal blue. And, according to this CNN article, "the company had picked five colors that it considered redundant or unattractive, but allowed one to be spared through an online vote. Burnt sienna received the most votes of the 60,000 cast and avoided retirement." Ahem, one of those votes would have been mine.

Oh, and her hair is burnt sienna, thank you very much.

And, here's a close-up of the hat, which shows that I still can't color within the lines.

I'm always learning something new from you, Patty. I enjoy seeing what other people do craft-wise since I just don't make the time for it!

This piece is adorable! Love the little face on the balloon. You really are so talented. When I was little, coloring was my favorite 'game'. I was so upset when they discontinued violet blue and blue gray. Glad we got to keep burnt sienna. Have a great week! Twyla

Hi,

I'm new to your blog. Beautiful stitching.

I remember the Crayola decision to throw away my favorite color: teal blue.

I've been meaning to try this - we have a billion crayons around here. Thanks for the links to the tutorials.

Burnt sienna was the one I always used when the brown ran out.

That is the coolest thing Ive seen! I had no idea you could do that! You embroider and then color in the lines? Or you color first?
Congrats on your Super Commenter Award! :)

That's the cutest thing I've ever seen. I've never heard of crayon tinting, but then I'm not a stitcher and I don't sew either.
My grandmother was an excellent stitcher. Unfortunately, the skill was not passed on to me.
Cute stuff. Thanks for sharing!
